Twilight of the Drifter is a multi-layered mystery with genuine Southern overtones. The author does a great job of infusing the story with authentic dialogue and accurate description of the Mississippi Delta area, and you can tell he has done his research. Josh Devlin, the main male character, is a convincing outsider reacting to the other characters as he works on getting to the bottom of the mystery surrounding Alice, a 14-year-old runaway. The solution to what is going on is revealed in layers and goes hand in hand with Josh’s own situation as he is driven to finish what he has started, something he has never done before. The ending is a surprise, but is a welcome resolution for the characters. I can recommend this book for anyone who wants to read a mystery set in the South. Nice job, Mr. Frome!
